Wayne Fishing

Helen and Wayne are true South Islanders. After holidaying in Wanaka for over 40 years, they permanently moved there during 2006 having spent  all of their lives in Dunedin where Wayne was a teacher for 35 years. He represented Otago in cricket for 20 years and is now a passionate fly fisherman.  Wayne has been actively involved as a volunteer with the Department of Conservation (DOC) to save the Buff Weka from extinction.  The birds, once abundant in Central Otago, have been brought to a predator free island in Lake Wanaka with the hope of restoring a population on mainland New Zealand.

The D'lavande Garden

Helen worked in education administration for 23 years at Otago’s Otago Boys’ High School.  Her interests are particularly well suited to owning a B & B and include gardening, cooking and travel.  She is currently a volunteer for a local community service centre.

Together they spent a year travelling around New Zealand in a motor home giving them excellent knowledge of travelling the country and would love to share their favourite places with you.

Sustainable Living
We are lucky here in Wanaka as we have a very pro-active group  who encourage the local residents to recycle, re-use and minimise waste.

At d’Lavande B&B we are currently:
  • Re-using computer products where possible
  • Recycling all possible rubbish
  • Composting fruit and vegetable waste
  • Using eco-friendly cleaning products where possible
  • Growing our own fruit and vegetables
  • Do not use a clothes dryer
  • Have installed a wet back fire future-proofed for solar
